Indiana's New HIP Work Requirements: What Families Should Know

Beginning in January 2027, many adults enrolled in Indiana's Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) may be required to complete 80 hours each month of work, education, job training, or community service to maintain their health coverage if they do not qualify for an exemption.
Recently, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced a series of statewide town hall meetings to help HIP members, providers, and community partners understand these upcoming changes.

What Is Changing?
According to the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), many Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) members between the ages of 19 and 64 who are not exempt will need to complete 80 hours each month through one or more of the following:
Employment
Job training
Education
Community service
These requirements are expected to begin in January 2027.
To help residents prepare, FSSA is hosting town hall meetings throughout Indiana where individuals can ask questions and learn more about how these requirements may affect them.
